The Vernacular Alpine Architecture in Blatten, Zermatt, Switzerland
We're in the stunning Blatten hamlet in Zermatt, Switzerland, and are looking at a brilliant piece of historical craftsmanship: the "mushroom stones" that form the foundations of the traditional chalets here. Known locally as "Stadelsteine" or "Mäuseplatten," these ingenious stones were designed to protect stored food and grain from pests.

Dögkeli Wall - Walop 2025
For the past five years, the Alp Walop wall project, a collaboration between Stiftung Urgestein, skilled craftsmen, and numerous volunteers, has been working to restore a dry-stone wall in Switzerland.
